Of Mice & Men

If you want to discover a band which has been through their fair share of trauma, tragedy and line-up changes thrown in for good measure then ‘Of Mice & Men’ would probably be a fine bunch of gentlemen to start off with.

The metal core band from Ohio was formed in 2009 by Attack Attack!’s Austin Carlile and he took the band’s name from the classic short novel by John Steinbeck; ‘Of Mice and Men’ (nothing like a little literary culture to star the ball rolling). Throughout changes to the line-up, the band is now firmly glued together by the talents of Austin Carlile, Valentino Arteaga, Alan Ashby and Phil Manansala and 2012 is set to be the year that OMM smash their way into the rock scene. Late in 2008, Austin was kicked out of his then band ‘Attack Attack!’ although his resolution to succeed in life saw him on a mission to form ‘Of Mice & Men’ on the very same day.

From a young age, Carlile was riddled with medical issues which affected his ability to live a normal life as a young boy growing up in Ohio; however it was his emergency hospitalisation for a virus in his artificial heart valve in March 2012 which cemented his mentality and determination to make the most out of life. And how we are thankful for this!

Throughout 2012, ‘Of Mice & Men’ will be playing some must see gigs including the oh so close upon us Slam Dunk Festival which will be happening on May 26th and 27th in Leeds and Herts University as well as their UK tour in October which will see them ripping up the picturesque landscapes of London, Glasgow, Manchester, Birmingham and Leeds. Not only are they touring but they have a currently untitled new album to release unto the begging music holes of lucky fans across the lands.

My Chemical Romance – A Lesson in Creativity

Here at Grindstore, we have recently got our mitts on the fabulous new My Chemical Romance Killjoys poster which seems to be blowing a lot of people’s minds at the minute!

We have also found the little story of how the image came about so we thought we would share it with those of you who love a bit of MCR news…because we’re pretty great like that.

Brazilian graphic artist, Gabriel Ba was enjoying breakfast in San Diego in the company of the one and only Gerard Way who was showing off the concept art for the band’s (then) new album “Danger Days: The true lives of the fabulous Killjoys”. In sheer excitement, Ba decided to come up with his own interpretations of what he had seen and his work has ended up on the bedroom walls of My Chemical Romance fans across the globe.

If you love the poster then why not take a little peek at the step by step production of the drawing in pencil, ink and solid colour via the thumbnails below.
