The next big thing?

We all know that YouTube has been responsible for making people overnight stars with the likes of Chris Crocker and Justin Bieber (sorry about that!) but when someone comes along with a burning determination to take over the world, you would expect them to at least have a real band when releasing a video…or not as the case may be!

If you were to bump into one of the members of Ohio’s new rock sensation, Black Veil Brides, you would be forgiven for thinking you had been sucked into a time warp and spat out in the 1970’s! These guys are certainly challenging every aspect of 21st century rock with their eye catching attire and Kiss style hair do’s.

Andy Sixx is the man in charge and at the ripe old age of 20, he has managed to take the rock world by storm and it all kicked off with the help of a thrown together band (none of the members of the current line up) and good ol’ YouTube. Directed by Patrick Fogarty, Andy Six and his “band” put together the video for ‘Knives and Pens’ which was launched onto the World Wide Web on 17th June 2009. The words “overnight success” have never been so aptly applied as with Black Veil Brides! With 21 million views and counting, they have shot into mainstream success and have an unfathomable following from rockers of all ages and backgrounds…and why is this?…Research! (Do your homework kids). From the age of 5, Six knew that he wanted to take over the world with his music so he spent his youth looking at the kind of music people bought into and what they could connect with as well as taking notes from his (obvious) super favourite vintage rockers, Kiss!

Black Veil Brides line up consists of the business minded, music mad Andy Six and his buddies Ashley Purdy, Christian ‘CC’ Coma, Jake Pitts and Jinx and their sound is something completely new which is guaranteed to captivate anyone with a good set of ears. They delve into a bit of everything with some elements of screamo, a splash of punk / pop, lashings of glam metal and a pinch of gothic rock to create some truly outstanding tracks. With their ability to reach out and touch their fans, BVB are set to conquer the world and that is exactly what they intend on doing. They could probably get a sponsorship deal with  and scare the living daylights out of Hell’s Angels with their ripped up, silver studded, leather clad appearance but underneath, all these guys want to do is rock out and rock hard.

We know for a fact that this band are oozing ‘Six appeal’ and a lyrical archive guaranteed to touch the souls of anyone who has ever felt like an outcast, but we need some opinions from the people who matter…you lot! We are currently undergoing an exciting new stock line up and if you want to see more BVB merchandise then damn sure you’ll get it! Do you want spiky collars and pimped out biker jackets or some subtle band tees with which to spread the love? Whilst we’re at it, why not hit us with some other band merchandise you’d like to see on the website. We’ve already had some suggestions for Skindred, Airbourne and some more clothing for the lovely ladies out there but we have plenty more space for suggestions so get cracking!

Metallica’s 30th Anniversary

In 1981, two sprightly young men from Los Angeles embarked on a journey of epic rock proportions…

After meeting through a newspaper advertisement for a drummer, James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich were soon to be joined by Ron McGovney, Dave Mustaine, Cliff Burton and Kirk Hammett to create what is now considered one of the biggest bands in rock music history. Witnessing a couple of line up changes and enough awards to outshine your Nan’s Wedgewood collection, Metallica are still rocking hard 30 years after they roared onto the rock scene.

Metallica’s current line up consists of James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett, Robert Trujillo and they makes up a quarter of the “Big Four” of thrash metal (alongside Slayer, Anthrax and Megadeth). 2011 will see a world wide celebration of the bands 30th anniversary and it started on 3rd February with a must see photography exhibition held at London’s Proud Gallery in Camden. Featuring a collection of some rare and never before seen photography by Bill Hale, this free entry exhibition is a must attend for Metallica fans of all ages and it will be running until 3rd April 2011.

Having released 47 singles, 9 studio albums and 24 music videos, anyone with two of those little flappy things on the sides of their hear will have heard at least one of their songs! To name just a few, we have compiled a super short list of some of their better known tracks which EVERYONE needs to have bouncing around on their generic mp3 players:

Whether you were around when the big bang erupted back in 1983 with the release of their first track ‘Whiplash’, or you are the younger generation of old school rockers thrashing out their tunes on ‘Guitar Hero: Metallica’, people of all ages and musical backgrounds can appreciate the mind blowing work which has come from these guys. It is refreshing to know that in a world of one hit wonders and manufactured teeny boppers, the kings of metal are more than happy to burst through the backdrop of commercial madness and pound the ears of the people with real, hard rockin’ tracks.

Here at Grindstore HQ we love to celebrate these milestones in rock music and we would love to hear what you guys and girls think of this pretty impressive moment in time. Are you seeing them at Sonisphere? Holding a Whiskey in the Jar music video styled party? Getting their faces tattooed across your back? Maybe someone will start a Facebook group to get Metallica to number one (you heard it here first!) Whatever you’re doing let us know, share the love and remember to check out our awesome range of Metallica goodies at www.grindstore.com

Long road to ruin?…Not for these guys.

They are one of the biggest bands in rock with their roaring presence, mind blowing solos and catchy lyrics. They have released six studio albums and 28 singles as well as some unparalleled live DVDs and coming soon, on 12th April 2011…THE FOO FIGHTERS ARE BACK!!

Since 2009 and the charting of ‘Wheels’ from their greatest hits album, things had been pretty quiet on the Foos front as far as releasing music was concerned. However, behind the scenes, the almighty Dave Grohl, Taylor Hawkins, Nate Mendel and Chris Shiflett have been working their back sides off to produce album number seven (yet to receive a confirmed name) which is due for release in April.

Fans of the Foo Fighters will already know of the two teasers which have been released from the album, the first being a snippet of the track ‘Bridge Burning’ and the second taster which was leaked on 1st February on foofighters.fm. Grohl has confirmed that this long awaited album contains some of the Foos heaviest material to date and it will possess an entirely new sound after being recorded solely on an analogue tape in Grohl’s garage!

With some epic tunes under their belt including D.O.A, Everlong, Learn to Fly and the softer sound of Walking After You, these guys have been producing globally loved music since 1994 and 17 years on they are back again to captivate old and new fans alike. As of yet we are all eagerly awaiting more news on this highly anticipated album release but from what we’ve heard so far, we are absolutely loving it! An intimate gig was played by Grohl and the band at the Velvet Jones club in Santa Barbara and the lucky audience were the first to hear the new album in its entirety.

Let us know your thoughts on this highly anticipated new release. If you’ve heard any of the material what do you think of it? Anyone got any ideas on the album artwork? Maybe you have your own ideas which you want the world to see? Whether it’s artwork or opinions, let us know! We want to create some waves in the run up to 12th April and we would love to hear what you lot have to say.
